Alkagesta highlighted its sustainable fuel supply and storage commitments in a recap of its participation at SIBCON 2026 in Singapore, where discussions covered the changing marine fuel mix. The company said conference sessions examined how biofuels, methanol and LNG could sit alongside conventional fuels, with their roles varying according to vessel type and trade route.

In its account, Alkagesta linked those discussions to the expansion of its own sustainable fuels capabilities. It cited a five-year offtake agreement for used cooking oil (UCO) feedstock and a multi-year agreement for biofuel storage at Pantank in Antwerp. The recap presented both arrangements as examples of work already taking place within its trading platform, rather than announcing a new agreement at the conference.

Security of supply was another recurring subject during the week, according to Alkagesta. Discussions considered diversification of marine fuels as a way to manage risk, limit reliance on an individual supply source and strengthen operators’ resilience. The company placed those conversations against continuing supply pressures in global energy markets, alongside the sector’s longer-term transition towards a broader range of fuels.

The conference also addressed the conditions needed to take shipping decarbonisation beyond pilot projects and into commercial deployment. Alkagesta reported that industry leaders identified clear regulation, safety frameworks and access to finance as important requirements for that shift. Its account covered both the immediate supply considerations facing the marine fuels sector and the practical obstacles to scaling lower-carbon alternatives.

Alkagesta’s delegation included founder and chief executive Orkhan Rustamov, alongside representatives from investment and asset management, APAC commodity trading and marine fuel distribution and trading. Away from the sessions, the company said it met shipowners, bunker traders, customers, suppliers and other industry counterparts. Those meetings focused on maintaining established relationships and examining potential collaboration across APAC.
