Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy (SIRE) has acquired GreenAmerica Biofuels Ord from Pilot Travel Centers, adding an ethanol operation in central Nebraska to its production base. The transaction closed on 9 October 2026, according to Hydrocarbon Processing Biofuels, with financial terms remaining confidential.

GreenAmerica Biofuels Ord owns and operates a plant in Ord with annual ethanol capacity of approximately 70 million gallons. The acquisition brings SIRE's combined capacity to about 230 million gallons a year across two facilities in Iowa and Nebraska. The new asset joins the farmer-owned producer's existing operation in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

SIRE presented the purchase as part of a growth strategy that combines investment at Council Bluffs with acquisitions of established operating assets. Its stated selection criteria include dependable feedstock availability, access to a range of markets and a strong operating record. The company said the approach was intended to increase production scale while opening further opportunities to add value to agricultural output.

President and chief executive Eric Fobes described the Ord facility as a suitable addition to Council Bluffs, citing its condition, experienced workforce and position in a productive corn-growing region. According to the report, the Nebraska location gives SIRE another region from which to source grain and broadens the geographical spread of its operations. It also increases the company's scale in marketing ethanol, distillers grains and corn oil.

SIRE plans to keep the Ord plant's workforce and continue buying grain locally, preserving its role as an outlet for nearby farmers. Omaha-based law firm McGrath North Mullin & Kratz PC LLO advised SIRE on the transaction.
