Qatar-based Green Sky Capital is planning a $239 million sustainable aviation fuel plant at the Nador West Med complex in north-eastern Morocco, Hydrocarbon Processing Biofuels reports. The proposed facility would have annual SAF production capacity of between 176,000 and 200,000 tonnes. Its planned product range also includes renewable diesel, renewable naphtha and bio-propane, alongside the aviation fuel output.

The project is designed to process approximately 200,000 tonnes of waste-based feedstocks a year, according to the report. Used cooking oil, animal fats and by-products from food processing are among the materials identified for the plant. Green Sky Capital plans to use Axens’ Vegan HEFA technology to convert those inputs into the proposed renewable fuel products. The reported feedstock throughput is separate from the stated range for annual SAF production capacity.

On financing, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is considering a senior secured package worth $105 million. That amount includes a possible $20 million contribution from the Green Climate Fund, Hydrocarbon Processing Biofuels said. The financing remains under consideration in the source report, rather than being presented as an approved commitment. The proposed package would support a project whose total planned investment is $239 million.

Construction is expected to take 22 months, with start-up targeted for August 2028. The report gives both the anticipated construction duration and the planned start-up date, but does not specify a date for work to begin. Employment could reach up to 400 workers during the construction phase, while the facility is expected to employ approximately 162 people once it moves into operations.
