Alkavex, Alkagesta’s steel trading business, has visited manufacturers and other steel industry participants in Tangshan and Tianjin as part of its commercial development work in China. In an announcement, Alkagesta said the programme involved business development meetings with manufacturers, trading businesses, processors and industry representatives in the two cities.
Bayram Bayramli, China Business Developer at Alkagesta, led the engagements. According to the company, discussions with producers, processing businesses and industry associations offered a closer view of manufacturing capacity, the infrastructure supporting supply chains and opportunities for international trade. The visits formed part of continuing commercial activity in China rather than the launch of a newly announced business.
Alkagesta described Tangshan and Tianjin as a major corridor for Chinese steel production and exports. It said the meetings reinforced relationships supporting Alkavex’s regional sourcing and trading operations. The announcement focused on supplier engagement and commercial development; it did not disclose purchase volumes, contract values or individual counterparties involved in the meetings.
Based in Malta, Alkavex is a joint venture between Alkagesta and French steel trader Navex SAS. Alkagesta owns a majority interest in the business. Its initial product focus is on semi-finished and finished steel, with China identified as the principal source of those products, according to the announcement.
The venture serves customers in both West and East Africa, bringing together trading knowledge, logistics and trade finance services. Alkagesta said this offering supports rising regional demand associated with construction, manufacturing and infrastructure development. The Chinese engagements therefore sit within the venture’s stated sourcing model and African customer focus. The announcement concerned steel operations and made no connection to renewable fuels.
